    GRAND OPENING ACTIVITIES APRIL 24

    Grand openings in person and on the web were held for the new statewide AskAwayIllinois Virtual Reference Service.

  • The Virtual Grand Opening was held on OPAL. Anne Craig, Director of the State Library, Debra Aggertt, Statewide Virtual Reference Coordinator, and Suzanne Schriar, Training and Support, provided a press conference and overview sessions of the new service online for librarians throughout the state.

    The mayor of Olney, Illinois proclaimed April 24th AskAway Day in Olney, Illinois. OCC librarian, Charlotte Bruce, East Richland High School librarian, Nancy McClenathan, and Olney Public Library librarian, Judy Whitaker are behind him. All three libraries are participating in the new 24/7 virtual reference project.

    A press conference was also held at Bradley University where Mary-Carol Lindbloom from the Alliance Library System interviewed Olympic skater Matt Savoie. This was also broadcast via OPAL and attended by approximately 25. Story on WHOI News website from Peoria


    Ask?Away is a consortium of Illinois and Wisconsin libraries and is funded by the Illinois State Library/Secretary of State Jesse White with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

    This site is hosted by the North Suburban Library System.
