  • QUICK OVERVIEW OF BROWSER SETTINGS

    (assembled by Charlotte Bruce)

Our new AskAway launch went well, except for a few glitches because of Windows XP. We’re finding that we have to reset these browser settings every time we go into Question Point. The tech person said it is because of some settings administrators use with Windows XP that put things back to the default settings. If we could figure out what those settings are, it would help our library patrons because they will just quit trying if they have technical problems.

For Flash/Chat to work, computers need these settings:

  • Tools > Internet Options > General tab > click “Delete Files” and put a check in the box by “Delete all offline content” (They said this doesn’t have to be done every time we logon, but if the chat screen doesn’t show or the product doesn’t work, do this step.)

  • Also under the General tab > Click the Settings button > Click on “Every Visit to Page” to check for newer versions of stored pages. (This step is essential.)

  • Set amount of disk space to use to 1 MB.

  • Go to the Advanced tab and choose either Sun Java OR Microsoft VM --- BUT NOT BOTH

  • Pop Ups need to be turned on or, under Pop Up Settings, type this URL in the Allowed sites box– http://www.questionpoint.org
